2017 Chevrolet Cruze Chevy Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, and Photos

The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze is fairly fuel efficient for a compact car—even more so if you consider it to be a small mid-sizer. Compact buyers are savvy shoppers, so we say push hard for a deal on that package, if you can. The Cruze also comes with the standard complement of stability and traction control systems. It helps that the Cruze is 250 pounds thinner than its predecessor two years ago, and that the car has been designed to feel more responsive and nimble, with a more fun-to-drive attitude than before. The Cruze's steering isn't uncharacteristically light, it's nicely weighted at high speed and isn't too light at low speeds. The nicest interiors are the two-tone options on the Premier trim level, but all versions of the interior are a clean and cohesive design.

The Cruze was released in 2008 for the South Korean market as the Daewoo Lacetti Premiere until the phasing out of the Daewoo brand in 2011, when it was renamed to Chevrolet Cruze. In 2016, the Cruze sedan was restyled and renamed for the Australasian market as the Holden Astra Sedan, as a sedan complement to the Holden Astra family. 2017 Chevrolet Cruze features include AM/FM Radio, Bluetooth Wireless Technology, and Child Door Locks.

Standard Features

GM said that all Cruze models built in Mexico were intended for global sales, but then they brought some into the U.S. to meet unexpectedly strong demand. But the controversy flared in the first place because GM laid off 1200 workers at the Lordstown plant, saying the Cruze wasn't selling well enough. The paradox might lie in the reality of the car business running hot and cold, and the issue of lag time. In either hatchback or sedan guise, the Cruze looks lower, leaner, and more sporty compared to the last generation, which carries over to the interior.

The first four doors cut a familiar look, but the roof eases into a window-mounted spoiler and cascades down the back glass in the hatch. Because of the hatch doesn't deviate far from the sedan, the rear hatch isn't as large as expected. The opening is higher on the Cruze Hatch's bumper—which makes for easier loading and unloading—but doesn't make for an exceptionally large rear cargo opening.

Here's everything you need to know about each trim in the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze lineup. Base cars are very spartan and lightly equipped, and not likely to be seen on the roads by most buyers—they're fleet kings and queens.

Chevrolet Cruze LT Sedan 4D Safety

In sedans the 2017 Cruze LT is a higher-level model, but it’s also the best value. In addition to a choice of manual or automatic transmission, there are the 24/7 Promise connectivity package, a 6-speaker audio system, cruise control, 16-inch aluminum wheels, and steering-wheel-mounted audio and phone controls. In sedan or hatchback the top-tier Premier adds leather seats, visors with illuminated vanity mirrors, 17-inch wheels, and an improved rear suspension. Options include Bose audio, sunroof, navigation, wireless phone charging, and safety features like blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist and forward-collision alert. More buyers will gravitate to the LS model, which not only offers an automatic transmission, but adds a nicer steering wheel, floormats and armrests.

Chevy is keeping quiet on those details, but that turbodiesel inline-4 may be borrowed from the already-announced 2018 Equinox that could dramatically change the Cruze's character. Top Premier and LT trims are shod with leather and other creature comforts such as an 8.0-inch infotainment screen or dual automatic climate controls. Most models will top out at $30,000, although upcoming diesel-powered cars could eclipse that mark.

Chevrolet finished 1–2–3 again in 2012, this time, Huff becoming champion ahead of Menu and Muller. Trim levels continue to be L, LS, LT (now combined into one trim level, as opposed to the previous 1LT and 2LT designations), and Premier (replacing the previous LTZ trim level as the top-of-the-line Cruze trim level). Higher trim levels (LT and Premier) also offer features such as the "RS Sport Package". An available RS package for LT and Premier cars adds a sporty-looking exterior with unique front and rear fascias, rear spoiler, and large 18-inch wheels. Despite losing 8 inches of length and adding one door to the rear, the hatchback version only deviates from the sedan behind the rear doors.

Despite no funding from the manufacturer, the Cruze remained the car to beat, even against works teams from Honda and Lada. Muller won his fourth WTCC title, his third in a Cruze and James Nash won the Yokohama Drivers' Trophy for independent entries, ahead of fellow Cruze drivers Alex MacDowall and Michel Nykjær. The NHTSA hasn't crash-tested the Cruze, and the IIHS has only done a couple of tests, with the top Good scores in side impact and moderate front overlap. All Cruzes come standard with 10 airbags and a rearview camera, as well as electronic stability control. Later this year, we expect Chevy to bring a long-awaited turbodiesel to the Cruze sedan (the hatch will come next year) that could improve highway mileage well into the 40 mpgs, and lead the rest of the pack.

If your shopping list must-haves includes "sporty handling" or " fun-to-drive nature," the Mazda3 or Honda Civic might be more your speed. The Subaru Impreza offers all-wheel-drive traction, and despite its emphasis on high-tech, the Cruze is missing things like adaptive cruise control, which is available on competitors. Chevrolet pulled their sponsorship at the end of 2011 from the BTCC to support the Chevrolet team in the World Touring Car Championship for 2012.[citation needed] Chevrolet then announced they would not enter a works team for the 2013 WTCC season. For 2013 RML, the original builders of the Cruzes, continued to compete without the support of Chevrolet. Cars were also entered by Bamboo Engineering, NIKA Racing and Tuenti Racing Team.

Neither package adds automatic emergency braking or adaptive cruise control, both of which can help propel the Cruze into our great graces for crash safety. Sedans are offered in base L, LS, LT, and Premier trims, while hatchbacks are sold only in top LT and Premier trims. RS sport-appearance packages are available in both cars, but only on LT and Premier levels. If you’re looking for a comfortable, quiet, good-looking, fuel-efficient, high-tech compact sedan or hatchback, the 2017 Chevy Cruze deserves a strong look. All the latest safety features like blind-spot monitoring and forward-collision alert are available, too. A new turbodiesel model is due to arrive this year for sedans (next year for hatchbacks) that could raise the available twist by nearly 80 ft-lbs and add a new 9-speed automatic.

Rather than pulling random numbers out of the air or off some meaningless checklist, KBB’s editors rank a vehicle to where it belongs in its class. Before any car earns its KBB rating, it must prove itself to be better (or worse) than the other cars it’s competing against as it tries to get you to spend your money buying or leasing. HATCHBACK BODY Hatchbacks seem like they’re making a comeback, and we think we know why.

BTC Racing will enter a hatchback variant of the Cruze for 2014, driven by Chris Stockton. The car was originally intended to be used by Jason Plato in 2012 but RML and Chevrolet withdrew from the BTCC and mothballed the shell. BTC Racing acquired it and were initially included on the entry list for 2013 but the car was not finished in time and never appeared all season. By 2011, Chevrolet introduced the "2.0LT VCDi" variant powered by a 2.0L CRDi diesel engine paired to a standard 6-speed automatic transmission with manual mode. It featured a proximity key with start/stop button.[94] In 2014, Chevrolet launched a redesigned Cruze which featured a different frontend.
